Lapis Lazuli or lapis for short is a deep blue metamorphic rock used as a semi precious stone that has been prized since antiquity for its intense color. The Sumerians believed that the spirit of their gods lived within the stone, while the ancient Egyptians saw it as a symbol of the night sky.
